3. Ascona Film Festival
Siamo lieti di annunciare la terza edizione dell’Ascona Film Festival, festival internazionale del cortometraggio organizzato unicamente tramite i social network, che si terrà da giovedì 27 febbraio fino a sabato 1. Marzo 2014 sul Monte Verità nella sala eventi dell’albergo Ascona, in via Signore in Croce 1.
Anche quest’anno siamo stati inondati da oltre 1500 iscrizioni da tutto il mondo. Per il concorso internazionale abbiamo selezionato 29 corti provenienti da 15 paesi per le tre serate del nostro festival, e due lungometraggi fuori concorso, che proietteremo il sabato pomeriggio. Il primo è un thriller poliziesco tedesco intitolato “Bissige Hunde”(Attenti al Cane), prima produzione di Alex Eslam. Il secondo lungometraggio è una commedia nera svizzera prodotta a Los Angeles intitolata “Who Killed Johnny?” di Yangzom Brauen, prodotto Shari Marcacci(artista cresciuta nel Locarnese), interpretato da Melanie Winiger, Max Loong e Carlos Leal.
Tra i film in concorso quest’anno vi sono “Aquel No Era Yo” di Esteban Crespo, Spagna, nominato agli Oscar 2014 nella categoria cortometraggio non animato, “La Lampe Au Beurre De Yak” du Wei Hu, China, film di sfondo tibetano, “Drunk History Christmas Special” di Jeremy Konner, USA, con Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendez e Jim Carrey e una divertentissima video opera intitolata Metube: August sings Carmen ‘Habanera’, di Daniel Moshel, Austria, parte della competizione YouTube del Sundance Film Festival di Robert Redford.
Quest’anno vi è pure una selezione generosa di cortometraggi svizzeri, come “Vigia” di Marcel Barelli, vincitore del pardino d’argento nel concorso nazionale dei cortometraggi al festival di Locarno nel 2013, “Tauchä” di Dominik Locher in concorso al Festival del Premio Max Ophüls, che è il festival più prestigioso per il giovane film tedesco e “Hylas und die Nymphen” della giovane attrice Lisa Brühlmann.
I film saranno proiettati in inglese o con i sottotitoli in inglese. L’entrata al pubblico rimane gratuita.
Quest’anno i concorrenti si contenderanno tre premi del pubblico, messi generosamente a disposizione dai nostri. Primo premio di CHF 1000.-, secondo premio di CHF 700.- e il terzo premio di CHF 500.-
Un ringraziamento di cuore anche a Electronic Studio di Locarno, che mette nuovamente a disposizione lo schermo gigante.
Con la crescita del festival, ci sono stati anche dei cambiamenti nei criteri della selezione: abbiamo deciso di concentrarci maggiormente sui film di finzione abbandonando, per intanto, la video arte e la art video. In più, quest’anno siamo in grado di invitare vari artisti ad essere presenti durante le loro proiezioni. Speriamo di poter offrire sempre di più sia agli artisti che al nostro pubblico negli anni a venire.

3rd Ascona Film Festival
We are please to announce the 2014 Ascona Film Festival, showing international short films and organized exclusively via social networks. The festival will take place from Thursday February 27th through Saturday March 1st 2014 in the events hall of the Hotel Ascona, located on Ascona’s Monte Verità, at via Signore in Croce 1.
Also this year we were flooded with over 1500 entries from all over the world. For the international competition we have selected 29 short films from 15 countries to be screened over the three evenings of our festival, and three out of competition feature length films, which will be screened on Friday and Saturday afternoon. On Friday we will screen Tempo Girl, first feature by talented swiss director Dominik Locher. On Saturday, the first feature, “Bissige Hunde” (Vicious Dogs), is a German police thriller directed by Alex Eslam. This is his first feature film. The second feature, “Who Killed Johnny?” is a dark comedy. A Swiss production filmed on location in Los Angeles directed by Yangzom Brauen, produced by local artist Shari Marcacci, with Melanie Winiger, Max Loong and Carlos Leal.
Among this year’s films in competition we will present “Aquel no era yo” by Esteban Crespo, Spain, nominated for this year’s Academy Award in the category short film (live action), “Butter Lamp” by Wei Hu, China, showing a glimpse of modern day Tibet, “Drunk History Christmas Special” by Jeremy Konner USA, with Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendez and Jim Carrey, and Metube: August sings Carmen ‘Habanera’, by Daniel Moshel, Austria, a very amusing video opera which is also in competition in the YouTube category at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
This year we are also presenting a substantial number of Swiss shorts, like “Vigia” by Marcel Barelli, winner of last year’s silver pardino in the national competition for short films at the Locarno film festival, “Tauchä”(Dive) by Dominik Locher, in competition at the Festival of the Max Ophüls Prize, which is the most important festival for young German cinema and “Hylas und die Nymphen”(Hylas and the Nymphs) by young actress Lisa Brühlmann.
All films will be screened in English or with English subtitles. Entry to the screenings is free of charge.
This year the filmmakers will be competing for three public prize awards offered by our generous sponsors. First prize in the amount of
CHF 1000.-, second prize in the amount of CHF 700.- and the third prize in the amount of CHF 500.-

As our festival grows, we have changed the criteria of selection for the films in competition. This year we have decided to concentrate primarily on fiction, abandoning art video and video art for now. On top of this, this year we invited various filmmakers to join us during the screening of their works. For the rest we always offer the possibility to be conferenced in via Skype. Also, on Saturday we will offer a live video feed via Bambuser of our last day of screenings, so any filmmaker or film aficionado not able to come join us in Ascona, can still have a little feel of festival ambience from the privacy of their computer. A personal registration will be required to access said live video feed. We hope to be able to always offer more to both artists and our audience in the years to come.

Wir freuen uns die dritte Veranstaltung des Ascona Film Festivals anzukündigen, internationales Festival des Kurzfilms, exklusiv auf Sozialnetzwerken organisiert, dass von Donnerstag 27. Februar bis Samstag 1. März im Eventsaal des Hotel Ascona, in via Signore in Croce 1 auf dem Monte Verità stattfinden wird.
Für den internationalen Wettbewerb haben wir aus über 1500 Einsendungen, 29 Kurzfilme aus 15 Ländern ausgewählt. Am Freitag und Samstag Nachmittag werden wir dazu noch drei Langspielfilme, die nicht am Wettbewerb teilnehmen, ausstrahlen. Der neue Schweizer Film „Tempo Girl – die Geschichte einer Generation“, von Dominik Locher, den Deutschen kriminal Thriller „Bissige Hunde“, von Alex Eslam, und die neue Schweizer black-Comedy „Who Killed Johnny?“ von Yangzom Brauen, mit Melanie Winiger, Max Loong und Carlos Leal.
Im internationalen Wettbewerb haben wir einen Oskar Anwärter, „Aquel No Era Yo“, von Esteban Crespo, „Drunk History Christmas Special“mit Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendez und Jim Carrey, und „Metube: August sings Carmen ‘Habanera’”, von Daniel Moshel , das am diesjährigen Sundance Film Festival im Video Wettbewerb stand.
Dieses Jahr haben wir eine grössere Schweizer Auswahl als zuvor, u.a. „Vigia“ von Marcel Barelli, Sieger des silbernen Pardino am Locarno Film Festival 2013 und „Hylas und die Nymphen“ der jungen multitalentierten Schauspielerin und Regisseurin Lisa Brühlmann.
Alle Filme werden auf Englisch ausgestrahlt oder haben Englische Untertitel.
Dieses Jahr sind drei Publikumspreise in der Höhe von CHF 1000.-, CHF 700.- und CHF 500.- zu gewinnen.
