Why The Locarno Film Festival, With A New Boss, Maintains A Unique Presence In the Industry

Over the past four years, the Locarno Film Festival rapidly increased its global profile in the film festival world for good reason: The program, organized by former Cannes Directors Fortnight head Olivier Pére, appealed to distinct cinephile tastes even while courting an active European marketplace. A number of world premieres at the Swiss gathering, which has taken place in August every year since 1946, eventually screened at bigger fall festivals like Toronto, but at Locarno they were allowed to stand tall: Last year, for instance, the avant garde fishing documentary “Leviathan” was one of the biggest stars in town, even as the festival’s massive outdoor Piazza Grande section screened the likes of “Magic Mike” nearby. The festival managed a very rare mix of highbrow sensibilities and star power, a combination epitomized by the youngish Pére’s charisma and exceptional knowledge of movies.

A Swiss production company located in Locarno, working in the European context; from 1972, produced hundreds of program hours.

A production centre providing technical services for audiovisual productions; a highly qualified team with a certified know how in producing contents for national and international market.

Polivideo Studios

A real estate company owning more than 17.000 sq. m. devoted to several activities. Furthermore, a team of 10 highly specialized professionals, several external consultants with a large cinema and television experience, more than 70 freelance regularly employed to be able to meet the needs of the various productions. From 1972, year of its foundation, Polivideo followed the technological evolution as a protagonist and often as a pioneer. The offering of the properties of the society is integrated with national and international partners.
